Pedagogy & Curriculum

Budding Lilies is committed to developing the following curriculum planning in its school.  It promotes all areas of development in guidance with the Montessori Method of teaching and learning through play.  Budding Lilies provides a pre-school service which promotes Aistear: The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and Siolta: The National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education.

According to Siolta: the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education

“Pedagogy in early childhood is expressed by curricula or programmes of activities which take a holistic approach to the development and learning of the child and reflect the inseparable nature of care and education”.

In order to facilitate a holistic approach to the development and learning of the child, Budding Lilies uses a combination of the Montessori and play based pedagogy.  By using this combination, children maximise benefits of both Montessori pedagogy and play based pedagogy creating a solid foundation of optimal care and education.

Both Montessori and play pedagogy complement one another through being child centred, promoting concrete experiences and learning and promoting freedom of choice and independence.  This gives scope to promote physical, intellectual, language, emotional, social and spiritual learning helping children develop in a holistic manner. This combination gives a holistic opportunity for the child to develop and learn in a variety of ways, optimising their learning, becoming competent active learners in their education.

Budding Lilies promotes a child centered environment and recognizes that the child is an active participant in his or her learning and development.  Staff members listen to and value what children say, talk to them about what they are doing and actively encourage children to explore to their full potential.  Children have the opportunity to express their views, exercise choice and influence the care and education curriculum.  This curriculum and resources available at Budding Lilies provides the children with flexibility, the freedom of choice and independence to develop abilities and interests of individual children.  Budding Lilies ensures a positive attitude to learning as being fun and exciting promoting a positive foundation for future education.

The curriculum is recorded through time.

  1. Long term planning covers the course of a year.
  2. Medium term planning covers the course of a term.  This is divided and displayed as a medium term plan, medium term emergent interests and medium term resources rotation in each activity area of the classroom.
  3. Short term planning covers a weekly basis.  This is divided and displayed as a daily routine, daily planning and weekly emergent interests.

Planning is displayed on the information noticeboard, indicating a detailed account of how Budding Lilies promotes the aims and goals of Aistear: The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and Siolta: The National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education.

Budding Lilies offers a two year curriculum which is especially catered for children availing of the free two year scheme.  This provides interest, fun and exploration especially catered for the specific age of your child, their development and their individual needs.
